You never really had a choice, but the University of Life is the best schooling any of us have ever got. Plus, it’s free! There are no endless questions to fill out a FAFSA form, no grueling hours spent pouring over scholarship essays or free bee hard working gifts like grants and loans.
Sure you are around older people who can help you with advice, at some moments in your life but the reality is that they are learning as they go along as well. Passing on knowledge they have acquired and absorbing knowledge from others.
The youngest little gurgling baby can teach the oldest rickety woman something about her own patience and a middle-aged balding man can teach a new undergrad a little something about the importance of turning in an essay on time.
As a child you’d get a lecture about running when it’s wet every time it rained or while frolicking in the city pool. Dreary elongated hours in a lecture hall with professor Mom, “Don’t run when it’s wet”…”Hey sweetie, don’t drive too fast when it’s wet”….”Hey! no running by the pool!”…”Yo! Don’t run!”…..”Careful outside, it’s wet.” Nodding you pass every quiz, but when the test comes around, you run where it’s wet, slip fall and scrape up your knee. And you fail miserably, but eventually learn.
The phrase "live and learn" should just be eliminated altogether since it is rarely how we live. It's advice we give to people in certain circumstances, sticky situations, or when they have tearful hearts. However, we, humans that is, tend to make the same silly mistakes over and over again. But they don't have to be considered mistakes. They are simply acts of living: the crazyness that makes up life.
**Graduate School: Not everyone gets in to Grad school, but those with perseverance, drive to know more, helping others, appreciating every little thing and really just having a good soul, get accepted.
